What is wireless broadband, and how does it work?
Wireless broadband is a secure, reliable alternative to your
wired internet service provider (dial-up, cable, DSL, satellite, or
T1). We offer a very high speed internet connection at a fraction of
the cost of a T1 line, and without having to run wires and cables to
your building!
A radio data signal is broadcast between our transmission
tower and a Subscriber Unit installed at your location. (This SU is a
small, one foot square, transceiver mounted to the exterior of your
building.) This signal is then connected to your existing network or
PC. The installation is to a fixed point in your building: it is not
WiFi (although we can provide a WiFi network in your facility if you
need this.)
Who is Alabama
WiNet?
Alabama WiNet (AWIN) is a sister company to Southern Micro
Systems, Inc. located in Prattville,
Alabama. SMSI was
established in 1991 to provide complete technology solutions. They
build, sell, and service computers, servers, peripherals and networks.
AWIN was established in 2005 to provide ultra high speed services.
Our staff is made up of highly trained engineers,
technicians, and consultants. We are honest, dependable and fair. We
are committed to always exceed customer expectations.
What is the coverage area?
Currently we have
transmitters in Montgomery and Prattville, with some subscribers
receiving excellent signal strength over eleven miles away from the
transmission tower.
Signal strength is sometimes adversely influenced by dense
trees and some high buildings. The only sure way to know if this
service is available to you is to contact us to come to your facility
to conduct a free signal test. (By the way, the signal is not effected
by weather!)
Why should I change to wireless?
Wireless technology is on the leading edge of the fast
paced technology boom we are enjoying today, and there are many reasons
why you should consider upgrading to Alabama WiNet’s wireless
broadband high speed internet service.
Speed:
Our standard business packages provide either 4MB or 10MB per second
connection speeds.
Synchronous
Service: Uploads are just as fast as downloads! On
traditional wired connections the upload is incredibly slower than the
download speed. The exception to this is “T1” service,
which is synchronous, but it is much more expensive, and is also much
slower than AWIN wireless.
Support:
As a locally headquartered company, we are able to provide quick
response to your technology needs. Our professional staff is available
to help you find creative and economical solutions to your internet and
networking needs.
How much does it cost?

When can I get service installed?
Typically we are able to provide a free site survey within
3 business days and complete installations within 5 business days.
